Ayurveda - A Basic Introduction

What is Ayurveda ?

Ayurveda is one of the oldest healing and health sciences known to mankind, dating back as far as 5000 years ago.  Ayurveda originated in India and its name comes from the ancient Sanskrit consisting of the words “Ayur” meaning “Life” and “Veda”, which means “Knowledge or Science”.  So in short it means “The Science of Life”.  Although it is an ancient healing system from India, its wisdom is eternal and universal.  It is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit.  The primary focus of Ayurvedic medicine is to promote good health, rather than fight disease.
